Jacquard Cyanotype Set

Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic techniques and this set Jacquard allows artists to harness the sun to print detailed prints form objects or photographic negatives. Simply place your objects onto the sensitised surface and expose to sunlight (UV). It can be used to print on a range of natural and porous surfaces like cotton, linen, silk, canvas, wood, paper and more. Why not try unusual surfaces like rocks for an interesting effect. This set contains enough chemistry to make approximately sixty-five 8x10" prints on paper or fifty 8x10" prints on fabric. 

To print photos just use a negative which is easily created by inverting your black and white photo onto a transparency and place on the sensitised surface to transfer to your chosen object or surface. This printing process is great for photographers, mixed media artists, printmakers, quilters and makes a great workshop activity in the classroom or studio. Cyanotype is a fun, easy and forgiving process that creates magic in the classroom. 

Cyanotype is the “original” sun-printing process, one of the earliest photographic techniques. Discovered in 1842 and distinctive for producing rich, Prussian blue monochromatic prints, Cyanotype was popular well into the 20th century as an inexpensive method for reproducing photographs, documents, maps and plans (hence the enduring architectural term “blueprint”) and famously, for making impressions of biological specimens in the field (“photograms”).
