Liquid Underglaze 50ml Black

Northcote Pottery Liquid Underglaze can be used to add colour to your pottery projects, white clay bodies will result in brighter colours but any clay surfaces can be used. Experimentation is half the fun. With a wide assortment of colours to choose from they can be applied to raw or bisque fired clay surfaces with a brush or other instruments. And can be mixed together to develop new colours and they can be thinned with water or brushing medium. When you're ready to glaze your final piece use a glaze suitable for the clay used in the project. 

Stir your Liquid Underglaze well before and during use. Sponge the clay surface before application and clean your painting surface to remove dirt and grease before use. For best coverage apply 2 thin even coats of underglaze with a soft brush. A single coat thickness guide would be equivalent to 1 coat of nail polish. Never apply more than 3 coats as over application causes peeling. Remember this when planning your designs and paint colours beside each other rather than on top of each other. 

When thinning with water the liquid underglaze can be used when applying a dipped, poured or sprayed glaze but be aware thinning with water can cause settling or separation of underglaze ingredients in the jar. So best to thin your small quantities in a bottle or palette. And when using a brush on glaze thin with brushing medium. If your liquid underglaze dires in the pot it can not be re-wet, keep the lids on your pots when not in use and always clean brushes with water before the underglaze dries. 

Liquid Underglaze can be fired at any temperature up to the burnout temperature (check catalogue for burn out temperatures).    •  Should never be fired in a reduction atmosphere in gas kilns.
