Raffia Hank Natural 1kg

This large 1kg hank of raffia is in a natural colour and suitable for a range of arts, crafts, weaving and wrapping techniques. Made from the long fibres from the raffia palm tree, which grows in the wet soil of tropical Madagascar. The fibre is soft and pliable but has a strong durable finish that's easy to due. It's also biodegradable and widely used for agricultural purposes. Use raffia to make baskets, hats, mats rugs and for general use or arts and crafts projects. Aust Paper has partnered with Tjanpi Desert Weavers and NPY womens council and a percentage of all raffia sales goes to support those foundations. 

Since October 2025, the recent military coup and change in leadership in Madagascar, a primary source of raffia, have caused considerable supply chain disruptions and uncertainty. The political unrest has directly impacted the harvesting and sourcing of raw raffia, making it more expensive and difficult to obtain.
